joy the baker
joy the baker is a beautiful + hilarious, award-winning food blog founded in 2008.
i am a long time follower of joy, her stunning photography, perfectly paired patterns + plentiful collection of delectable recipes.
but her infallible sense of humor is what kept her link at the very top of my foodie bookmarks folder for years.
when she emailed me later that week about redesigning joy the baker, i was ecstatic.
for this project, she required a new logo, new social icons and a comprehensive redesign of current website.
the redesign needed to support the new branding, while still working cohesively with the substantial post archive she has built over the past four years.
for most projects, i do both front + back-end design, but joy had a wonderful developer, danny cohen to handle the wordpress theme development. this allowed me a beautiful opportunity to focus exclusively on the design of graphics, layout and functionality.
joy’s concept request for the logo was feminine yet modern. we played with several ideas before selecting the final version, created from a photo of sea lavender i took recently.
joy’s gorgeous photographs are the shining star of the site, so i knew early on that i wanted to utilize the featured image function built into wordpress.
the recipe index, explore sidebar and “joy, recently” grid all utilize this feature, and each dynamically pulls new posts from the site’s ever-growing archive.
the custom fonts are served from google.
for joy, i also created a custom email signature, twitter background and feedburner layout.
this project was such a pleasure to work on. thank you joy!
